I also invited guests Mike Read and Sarah Hood, and I now feel I have responsibility for their sustained experience. The pressure!
I know there have been several LI posts from the IECL Summit but I’ve taken a different (possibly accidental) approach to share reflections one month on.

How often do you leave a conference, or a workshop, an offsite with brilliant connection and energy only for all that to dissipate ‘returning to the day job’?

So what is still sitting with me one month later?

James O’Loghlin spoke of Persuasion and Influence and shared some brilliant examples of ‘nudging’. For example, to encourage the use of stairs in Sweden, they created stairs that replicated piano keys so you could make music ascending stairs (or acquire major injuries playing Beethoven’s Fifth’)

Carlos Del Cueto (Leading Teams) used amazing story telling from his first profession, orchestra conducting. What a magical way to share stories of leadership, not only from the conductor, but also ways to get the team (orchestra) to lead each other. Like a workplace, but the results are much more audible!

Nicola Atkinson (Minter Ellison) and Pierre De Villiers (The Talent Exchange) helped us connect all of the leadership conversations back to strategy. Start with the strategy, connect mindsets and behaviours to that strategy, and finally ensuring the right systems and processes will drive the necessary change. And make leadership development as experiential as possible. Period.

Ellen Hooper (Growth Collective) took as down the path of accountability and barriers to holding people to account ties back to conflict in either process, relationship or task. We got some good guidance on giving feedback with inspiring words from Adam Grant. Rather than sharing quotes I’ll share the recommended podcast episode on Work Life by Adam Grant – “How to love criticism”
