Work From Home

In my journey as a consultant working with clients large and small, I’ve realised that the backbone of any thriving company is not its strategies or products, but its people—particularly its leaders. The success of most organisational initiatives, hinges on the role that leaders play.

Bad leadership, as we often hear, isn’t just about a lack of skills or knowledge. It’s deeper. It can be a disconnect between how leaders perceive their performance and the reality of how they are perceived by their teams. It’s about the subtle behaviours that undermine team confidence and erode trust. In fact, addressing these leadership mishaps is crucial because they are the primary reason talented employees walk away.

Transforming leaders from bad to good isn’t just about sending them to training sessions; it’s about fostering an environment where feedback flows freely and constructively. It’s about great coaching conversations and asking the best coaching question of all – ‘And what else?’ – AWE!* It’s about creating a culture where every leader understands that their actions and words have deep impacts on their team’s morale and productivity.

Leadership initiatives can take a variety of forms whether built around coaching of individuals or teams, honest assessments, bold feedback, mentoring and, yes,  even training around specific competencies. It may focus on nurturing emotional intelligence, encouraging transparency, and ensuring every leader has the tools to support their team effectively. But it takes time and there needs to be support for the long term and not the expectation of a ‘quick fix’.  This can lead to shifting cultures profoundly, creating environments that promote growth and respect.

So if you are wondering where you need to focus to drive your growth strategy, start with your leadership.  Build leaders and a leadership team that you can trust, whose performance excels individually and collectively, that are looking out for each other and for your organisation.  Great leaders are the catalysts for the retention and satisfaction of teams. A culture that supports great leadership and its management is one that flourishes, innovates, and outlasts.

If you’re up for a chat around lining up your own leadership or those of others just message me here.
